Legal framework for load securing
Rectangular containers and CEMbox toolboxes are frequently transported on vehicle flatbeds, moved by forklifts or lifted by crane. As such, they – like products in the water management sector – are subject to load-securing requirements.
The legal basis for this is Section 22 of the Road Traffic Regulations (StVO), which requires loads to be secured properly. This requirement is specified in more detail by VDI 2700 ‘Load Securing on Road Vehicles’ – a generally recognised technical standard. Features such as forklift pockets, crane lifting eyes and locking cams on the CEMbox support safe handling during loading, unloading and transport.

A series of guidelines published by the Association of German Engineers (VDI) on load securing on road vehicles. Not a statutory requirement, but a generally recognised technical standard within the meaning of Section 22 of the Road Traffic Regulations (StVO). |
| GRP │ PE |
Glass-fibre-reinforced plastic (GRP) and polyethylene (PE) – the two main materials used for CEMO transport and storage containers, each with different properties in terms of weight, dimensional stability and area of application. |
| Craneable | A characteristic of a container that has specifically designed lifting points (e.g. swivelling crane lifting eyes) so that it can be safely lifted and moved by a crane. |
| Forklift pockets | Recesses in the base of a container that enable it to be picked up and transported by a forklift truck. |
| Locking cams | Components that prevent containers from slipping when stacked on top of one another. |
| Lifting gear | Connecting elements between a crane hook and a load – e.g. chains (in accordance with DIN EN 818), lifting slings/round slings (in accordance with DIN EN 1492) or wire ropes (in accordance with DIN 685). In accordance with Section 14 of the BetrSichV in conjunction with TRBS 1203 and DGUV Rule 109-017, lifting accessories are subject to a mandatory periodic inspection by a ‘competent person’ – in practice, at least once a year, or more frequently if subjected to heavier loads. Damaged or defective slings must be removed from service immediately. |
